Grandfather


As a child I can remember sitting in your lap,
I remember your laughter, hugs, and kisses,
Feelings of warmth and caring when you were near,
In my dreams I still see your smiling face,
Yet, I never knew you,

In my father's eyes I still see glimpses of you,
I sense your echo in his laughter, hugs, and kisses
I feel familiar feelings of warmth and caring when he's near,
Often when he smiles, I dream a glimmer of you,
Yet, I never knew you,


As an adult, I watch my baby girl sit in my father's lap,
See them laugh, exchange hugs, and kisses,
I see the exchange of love and caring between them,
The bond forming between a Papaw and his little granddaughter,
Yet, I never knew you,

I begin to feel this tug on the strings of my heart,
A familiar feeling stirs in the depths of my soul,
Instantaneously I begin to remember,
I may never have known you,
Yet, I sure loved you.
