Memories of Grace

What do you say about your mother? Mom was not only my mother, but she was also my best friend. She always stuck by me, through thick and thin, no matter what. She gave me everything, did everything for me, took me everywhere I wanted to go. She tagged along with me to all those rock concerts I wanted to see, even though I know she most likely would have preferred to be somewhere else. She taught me so very much, too. We traveled all over the country together. She loved to drive. We went for rides almost every weekend, good weather or bad. We went to places like Disneyland, Marineland, Grand Canyon, California, Florida, almost everywhere you can think of. I miss the games we used to play. She loved monopoly and Life. She loved Star Trek. She enjoyed reading her Daily Word and her Unity magazine. She was a very spiritual person. She believed in positive thinking. I remember with joy the last Christmas we spent together. She gave me the most beautiful teddy bear from Vermont Teddy Bears. It was dressed like a princess with a gorgeous outfit. It's one of my most precious possessions. She also gave me a watch with a labrador retriever on it, which I dearly love. She loved animals. She had a siamese cat named Tang. Tang went to the bridge one year before she did. We had him cremated and I brought his ashes home to her in a little flowered container. She held it in her hands, said, "That's Tang" and then cried. I felt so bad. She loved her kitty so very much. She was the best companion any daughter could ever have hoped to have, the best mom in the world. I love her with all my heart and miss her terribly. Thank you, Mom, for everything you gave me and everything you did for me. The world has lost a very beautiful person. My life will never again be the same. It's lonely without her. I look at her favorite chair, empty now, and feel the tears well up inside. Her bedroom stands empty, too, but my cats are using it now. I know she'd be happy to know they're using it. I saved all her things. I didn't have the heart to give them away. It makes it seem like, somehow, she's still here. We had 53 wonderful years together. She was and is everything to me.
